Course Description
This course provides a survey of the law as it relates to cybersecurity. The course is designed for law students seeking to gain a better understanding of the legal and regulatory regimes that shape the cybersecurity landscape. The course will cover a huge array of legal topics -- a reflection of the fact that cybersecurity touches nearly every aspect of the law. The course aims to provide students with an introductory understanding of three things: legal authorities; legal institutions; and legal questions related to cybersecurity. The legal implications of cybersecurity are enormous, including implications for: consumer privacy; medical ethics; criminal law; international law; and intelligence gathering (in the U.S. and abroad) and much more. Because cybersecurity implicates large corporations, the course will also touch on the policy and economics of the internet more generally.
