Course Description

Advocacy is one of the most powerful ways that organizations can create social change. It can be large scale, advocating for governments to change policies, or smaller scale, advocating for community members to change behaviors. Effective advocacy requires knowledge, leadership and interpersonal skills, purpose, and connections. This class will cover the basics of advocacy, with particular attention paid to societal systems and structures, civil rights, and disability justice. Students will learn successful advocacy tactics and strategies, and be encouraged to incorporate advocacy into human service work.
