Course Description
Radar monitoring systems are critical tools to keep people and equipment safe from slope failures in open pit mines. These systems have gained industry-wide acceptance but require in-depth understanding by professionals to be effective and fully utilized.
This course is designed for students who wish to understand the technology behind and use of radar monitoring systems to detect earth movement on open pit mine and natural slopes. Both ground- and satellite-based radar systems will be covered, including synthetic aperture (SAR), real aperture (RAR), InSAR, and Doppler radar systems.
Classes will be taught online. Lectures will be asynchronous with pre-recorded lectures from experts in the field. There will be one online live class per week that will be used to reinforce the learnings from the lectures.
