Music, Sch ofGraduateUA - UA General

Course ID

Course Description

Most classical and jazz instrumentalists pursuing careers in ensemble performance or studio instruction are frequently required to perform solo musical auditions are part of the hiring process. In such auditions, instrumentalists are called upon to consistently perform short musical excerpts at a very high level in high-pressure environments. Depending on the audition, these excerpts may be drawn from a wide variety of musical literature, including the standard repertories of the symphony orchestra, ballet, opera orchestra, wind ensemble, and jazz ensemble. This course offers students the opportunity to critically study a sample of excerpts frequently required for auditions, with an emphasis on stylistic differences, performance traditions, tone production, and individual performance mastery. Through regular performance opportunities in excerpt class and mock auditions, students will gain a broader knowledge of large ensemble repertoire and will strengthen general audition skills.
