Course Description

This course is designed to provide hands-on experience observing and quantifying the physiological and behavioral effects of toxicants on a variety of organisms. We will discuss mechanisms of actions, biotransformation and bioactivation reactions of toxicants in the target organs, and the modifying host factors. Experiments examining the toxicology of various target organs in the body, such as the liver, kidney, skin, and respiratory tract will be performed. Labs covering typical dose-response curves (LC50), growth inhibition, mutagenicity, genotoxicity, and histopathology will be performed. Additionally, field trips to relevant locations/labs will occur during class periods. Field and lab reports will be due weekly.
