Course Description

In this course, students will be exposed to the most controversial and timely topics in healthcare. We will cover lethal injection, euthanasia, pregnancy termination as well as human physical and cognitive enhancement. We will also focus on inconsistencies in the medical use of drugs such as social medication, disease-mongering, and compassionate use of unapproved drugs for the terminally ill. Finally, we will explore the pharmacology and toxicology underpinning the US DEA drug scheduling system as well as the history and future of relevant and timely drugs of interest: cannabis, opioids, and psychedelics.
