EVAL651 - Development of Coalitions to Facilitate Change
Course ID
042231
Course Description
Coalitions are an important part of making change because they often represent people and organizations closest to issues in focus and members and their organizations bring knowledge, experience and assets to change efforts. It is not enough to know that coalitions exist when we engage in community based participatory and action research. We must know how to identify coalitions and understand their life cycle, understand participation issues and how power gets expressed, and how to support coalitions so that they can accomplish the work they need to do. In this elective course, students will consider and apply models to understand coalitions and their lifecycles, analyze interventions to strengthen coalitions, and will probe the role of researchers and evaluators in these coalitions.
