Course Description
This course will provide an overview of biomarker development, with a focus on cutting edge technologies related to development of biomarkers geared at identifying, predicting, and determining prognosis of disease. Specific molecular topics discussed will include novel `omic techniques (proteomics, genomics, metabolomics and lipidomics) as well as the use of pathology to establish new biomarkers. Students will be introduced to a broad range of biomarkers for diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, autism, and immune-related disease challenges. An emphasis will be placed in this course on learning how biomarkers are used as diagnostic indicators of current disease status, and as predictive and prognostic indicators of future disease
