The MILAGRO (Migration Interprofessional Leading to Action and Growth) Collaborative provides students the opportunity to participate in a collaborative response to address migration in the borderlands of Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico. The course is a partnership with community organizations and is taught by an interprofessional group of faculty and staff, who represent all four Tucson-based University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) colleges. Through community engagement and experiential learning, students in the course will analyze the evolving root causes of migration, describe the impact of public policy, explore social determinants of health for im/migrants, assess the role of volunteers in supporting migrant communities, and develop interprofessional perspectives across health-related disciplines/practices. Students will work directly with migrant serving partner organizations through service hours.

There may be some local travel, and students may have opportunities to participate in a US-Mexico border experiential learning trip. Details will be provided in the syllabus.
