Course Description
Working on or managing any project in the field is a huge and challenging task, especially as we take research and novel ecological and biosystems engineering techniques, technologies, and methods to the field. Within this course, students learn to translate their current knowledge to take an idea through the engineering design process. Students will design procedures to develop pilot studies or apply ecological engineering processes to solve current challenges at the intersection of the built and natural environment. They will have to consider concerns like life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA), environmental and social impact, cost, and the impact of processes on the environment via a selection of case studies. The skills and knowledge acquired during this course will enable students to develop new technologies with the end-user and field application in mind to mitigate risks and address challenges associated with sustainability, global climate change, and the use of natural resources.
