Parasitism is one of the most common lifestyles on earth and all organisms must defend themselves against disease. How do parasites and pathogens shape individual lives, wildlife populations, and even our own society? This course explores the ecology and evolution of disease, including the diversity or parasites and pathogens, the strategies and mechanisms of host defense, the effects of disease across biological scales, and the ways in which scientists study these topics. We will use readings from the primary literature, simulated data, activities, and discussion to delve into these topics.
