Course Description
This course explores the basic concepts and knowledge the nurse-midwife needs to assess and manage acute and stable chronic health problems and preventive/wellness care of individuals across the lifespan. This includes special populations such as pediatrics, pregnancy, and older adults. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based, clinical decision-making using the pathophysiology of the disease process, diagnostic procedures as aids to clinical decision-making, and pharmacologic/non-pharmacologic management of the clinical course of illness. Multi-faceted outcome-based interventions will be discussed including culture and environment, ethics, family theory, complementary and alternative therapies, interdisciplinary approaches, education, and health promotion.
