Course Description
A Serious Game combines learning with game elements to teach, to train, and to rehabilitate. This course will specifically delve into and review best practices for STEM-focused video games, sandboxes, and virtual field trips. Topics covered will include balancing content and gameplay, the importance of good feedback systems, and how to create game systems that accurately teach complex concepts like evolution without reinforcing common myths. Students will discuss ways to adjust video game expectations and game play according to age group and preferred learning outcome. As a final project students will work together in small groups to create a digital game.
