APAS350 - Asian American Stereotypes: Data and Bias in a Multicultural Society

East Asian StudiesUndergraduateUA - UA General

Course ID

Course Description

Stereotypes live in cultures, are remembered in daily experiences, and are sometimes reinforced by popular presentations of data (like social media posts). This course utilizes data to help separate fact from fiction about Asian Pacific Americans and provides tools for students to understand their multicultural university life and to navigate their future multicultural workforce. Along with facts and figures, a history of depictions and purposes for those depictions will help you think through the power of stereotypes to distort people's lived realities. In addition to learning about stereotypes of APAs in general, the class will work together to study stereotypes here at the University of Arizona.
