Course Description
The surgical critical care elective introduces MS 4 students to the diagnosis, assessment, and management of complex, critically ill surgical patients with multiorgan involvement. Major emphasis will be placed on learning the pathophysiology, diagnostic techniques, and management of acute respiratory failure, shock, sepsis, cardiovascular failure, neurological disorders, and fluid and electrolyte disturbances in the surgical patient.
