Course Description

This course is designed for first-year environmental science majors as an introduction to essential topics of the discipline. Topics covered include: agriculture, air pollution, conservation, ecology, environmental health, fossil fuels and renewable energy, global climate change, human population, limnology, mining, physical science, sustainability and waste. For each topic, a more nuanced study consists either of a discussion based on an additional reading or a quantitative exercise. Emphasis is placed on the human disruption of the Earth system and the cultural context of environmental science.
