Course Description

Psychotherapy Fundamentals II covers a set of new behavioral and cognitive approaches that emphasize such issues as mindfulness, acceptance, values, and meta-cognition. This course is designed to expose students to the core intervention elements of these approaches, specifically acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Through readings, role plays, presentations, and classroom discussions, the course will integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills in delivery of core intervention elements. The course will prepare students to use key elements from each of these approaches in an applied practice setting and will involve a significant amount of role-plays to facilitate skill development.
