Course Description

This course is designed to provide an overview of teacher motivation models/research for teachers' occupational pursuit, sustained interest in the teaching profession, efficacy for teaching, and rationale for attrition in recent literature. Students should already be familiar with (student) motivation theory, as many of these theories apply to teachers; such theories include (but are not limited to) self-determination, achievement goal orientation, control value, expectancy value, and self-efficacy. Students enrolled in this course will have the opportunity to submit a proposed research study with a focus on demonstrating an understanding of the literature, educational research methods, data collection and analysis in educational contexts, and the ability to develop/synthesize original research ideas that contribute to the existing literature on teacher motivation.
