Course Description

This course explores the rise of authoritarian politics in American life through three different disciplinary lenses, including journalism, political science, and critical race theory. Students will be asked to evaluate through these specific disciplinary lens contemporary issues such as the rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement, the January 6th, 2021 attack on the Capitol, and the potential secessionist threat that continues to divide the country around political creeds. Students will read celebrated authors such as Claudia Rankine, Wesley Lowery, David French, and Batya Ungar-Sargon.
