This course examines U.S. state and local politics with a focus on the variation in individuals, institutions, and policies. It examines the role of states in the federal system, state institutions, parties, interest groups, political participation and representation, and state policies in a range of areas, such as economic development, the environment, healthcare, education, and criminal justice.
