Course ID
043355
Course Description
The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the role of ethics in psychological science and practice. The goals are for you to: (1) integrate the ethics materials presented with your own morals and values into a coherent professional identity, and (2) learn to create defensible analyses of ethical dilemmas that commonly arise.
In order to accomplish these goals, this course encompasses moral, philosophical, psychological and legal standards. We will review selected theories of moral philosophy, the five basic moral principles, the American Psychological Association (APA) Ethical Principles and Codes of Conduct for Psychologists, other APA Standards and Guidelines and legal statutes governing the practice and science of psychology. These documents will then be applied to important topics such as research, teaching, assessment and therapy. You will also be asked to reflect on and write about your personal ethical and moral values at several points in the semester.
