This two unit course provides an in-depth exploration of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) as well as justice and cultural engagement and their critical role in the field of medicine. Students will examine social determinants of health, cultural competency, healthcare disparities, cognitive and implicit biases, communication barriers, historical border discrimination issues, and restorative justice practices. The course combines theoretical foundations with practical applications through readings, videos, discussions, and activities.
