LAW656H - Culture Clash: Tribal Governments in the US Legal System

LawLawUA - UA General

Course ID

Course Description

This course will explore themes running through disputes between the United States and the Tribal governments located within the borders of the U.S. These themes are not limited to issues of Indian and Indigenous peoples law, but rather underlie many of the current disputes about governmental authority and power. Indian law provides a microcosm for exploring contemporary disputes about governmental power and control. These discussions are often complicated by the different values underlying Anglo-American and Indigenous political theories regarding the role of government and court systems.
