This course explores the complex ecology of wildlife and zoonotic diseases, focusing on the diverse range of pathogens and parasites that affect both animal and human populations. Students will learn about parasite communities, their heterogeneity, and the dynamics of disease transmission through SIR (Susceptible-Infected-Recovered) models. Emphasizing the One Health approach, the course will connect human, animal, and environmental health, highlighting the implications for conservation and wildlife management. Through case studies and discussions, students will gain insights into the spillover events of zoonotic diseases and the strategies for mitigating their impact on biodiversity and public health.
