Course Description

This course will cover professional skills to improve future health care interactions as well as written and oral communication for research and scholarship. Competencies that enable healthcare professionals to provide personalized and compassionate care are also skills that help students persist in their academic and professional careers; these \"soft\" skills are often learned over time and through trial and error. This course provides an opportunity for students to learn evidence-based skills in the classroom and apply them to real-world healthcare and academic scenarios. Although this is not a writing-intensive course, life-long learning and writing are also important professional skills. Students will learn how to conduct a literature search and write an abridged literature review. Those who successfully complete this course will gain a strong theoretical understanding paired with a portfolio of professional skills that may improve employability and persistence in medical or graduate school and other health care professions.
