Course ID
043619
Course Description
This course explores why political differences in the US are so bitter and how to effectively engage those differences as individuals and as a nation. Students develop insights from multiple disciplinary perspectives, including political science, history, social psychology, economics, and legal studies. The polarization in the US today is also placed in global and historical context. The course focuses particularly on the imperative to engage differences constructively created by the defensive barriers the Founders erected to prevent governing on a partisan basis. Students also consider prominent national leaders perspectives through guest sessions. Additionally, students participate in exercises that build the skills for engaging differences that are essential for success in their personal, professional, and civic lives.
