This course will introduce principles and tools of data visualizations and create visualizations using appropriate tools for two different but related purposes: (1) exploration and (2) explanation/presentation. The first part is to convey the principles of visualization, properties of effective visual, common challenges in communicating data, and formulating a story with data visualization. The second part is about trying to apply the principles of visualization and understand common techniques for effective data visualization for presentation. The two parts are intertwined and discussed throughout the semester.
