Course Description
Foundations of Genetic Clinical Skills introduces students to foundational skills used to incorporate genetics and genetic testing into clinical practice. The course will cover fundamental counseling skills necessary for clinical practice, construction and application of family and medical histories, management of clinical cases and patient education. The process of genetic counseling will be explored through theories of counseling as they apply to the development of interviewing skills, risk perception and communication, and psychosocial and family development. While not a requirement, this class has been designed for current or aspiring healthcare providers in a setting where genetic testing can be utilized to benefit and better care for patients.
