Course Description
Project management is an essential skill for students who are planning careers in public or nonprofit sectors. For organizations, effective project management is critical for achieving organizational goals; for individuals, effective project management can be critical for career success. Project management requires an array of skills including planning, resource management, stakeholder analysis and rigorous monitoring to keep projects on-pace, on-budget, and on-point. This course will introduce students to foundational concepts and principles for managing projects effectively and under conditions where resources (time, personnel, or funding) are constrained. We will explore core concepts from initial organization and team development through evaluation and promotion of your projects. Students will analyze these concepts through case study methods, apply these concepts through short research assignments, and build necessary project management skills through development of your own project management plan.
