Course ID
043818
Course Description
Introduction to studying opaque ore minerals in polished thin sections using a reflected-light petrographic microscope. Through introductory lectures and hands-on activities, students will learn how to identify and characterize opaque mineral phases, as well as interpret their textural relationships and mineral paragenesis. Reflected-light petrography will be complemented with transmitted-light petrography of alteration minerals and with special emphasis on ore and alteration assemblages from a variety of mineral deposits.
