Course Description
This course develops students' expertise in evidence-based individual and group therapy models while integrating essential communication theory to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. Students will explore major individual therapy approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic, and integrative models, learning to select and apply interventions based on client needs and presenting concerns. The course emphasizes group therapy facilitation skills, covering group development stages, therapeutic factors, and leadership strategies for various group formats including process groups, psychoeducational groups, and specialized populations. Students will learn to design, implement, and evaluate group interventions across diverse counseling settings. Communication theory serves as a foundational framework throughout the course, informing both individual and group therapeutic processes. Students will examine how interpersonal communication patterns, nonverbal dynamics, and systemic communication principles influence therapeutic relationships and outcomes; This includes understanding communication barriers, enhancing therapeutic presence, and utilizing communication strategies to facilitate client insight and behavioral change.
