Course Description
This course looks at the history, organization, economics, applied ethics, and possible futures of the legal profession in the United States. The first half of the course sets the stage, with an exploration of the various types of legal practice and the key institutions for education, regulation and collective representation in the profession. The second half of the course compares the licensure, regulation and training of lawyers to other professions, notably medicine, nursing and engineering, and assesses major drivers of change including the globalization of services and training, the creation of alternative legal providers, and the impact of AI and other technologies.
