MSE407 - Quantum Materials

Materials Science & EngrUndergraduateUA - UA General

Course ID

Course Description

This course explores the physics and materials science of quantum materials whose properties are governed by quantum mechanical effects beyond classical descriptions. Topics include topological insulators, superconductors, 2D materials, strongly correlated systems, and emergent quasiparticles. Emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between atomic structure, electronic band topology, and collective excitations. Students will also explore materials design principles and experimental techniques used to fabricate and characterize quantum materials. Through case studies and research-driven discussions, students will gain a foundation to critically analyze and contribute to advances in quantum materials science for electronic, photonic, and quantum information applications.
