HDFS622 - Latinx Youth and Families
Course ID
043953
Course Description
This course focuses on substantive topics that are particularly salient for Latinx youth and families, including but not limited to cultural orientation, ethnic identity, cultural values, and developmental outcomes. We will explore how the most common physical, cognitive, and socioemotional developments that occur in youth, particularly adolescents, are shaped by their family members (e.g., parents, siblings, grandparents). We will also examine how developmental changes are dynamically interrelated and diverse, often depending on factors such as gender and cultural factors. We will consider a sociohistorical contextual perspective, attempting to understand how Latinx children and families develop and thrive within various contexts or settings. The primary focus will be on Latinx youths' normative development.
