Course Description

This course provides fundamental knowledge about theory and method attendant to museum interpretation while providing opportunities to acquire and develop skills in public speaking and intercultural communication. Using exhibits at the Arizona State Museum (ASM), students will explore the role that they, and the educational practices associated with them, play in creating and disseminating anthropological knowledge to diverse publics. Although there will be fieldtrips to other museums (virtually and in-person), ASM is used by the class as a case study and students will learn about ASM's mission, collections, and community engagement and outreach programs.
