MUS104 - Who Cares About Classical Music?
Course ID
043960
Course Description
Today, the history of music is closer than ever. We can listen to music from coffee houses in the 1730s and new compositions that premiered last week all in the same digital playlist. This course will explore the ways we listen to classical music now and how people have listened throughout its history. We will ask how music shapes our artistic selves in the present and how music shaped societies, cultures, and individuals in the past. Why does music from the past continue to fascinate so many people? What pushes us to create new music? Why do we love to listen? This course is open to all undergraduate students. No prior knowledge of music is required -just the curiosity to listen and explore.
