Program Description

The Ph.D. minor in Remote Sensing & Spatial Analysis offers course work which ranges from the fundamentals of the physics and optics of remote sensing to image processing, pattern recognition, and geographic information systems. The Program curriculum also addresses the applications of these tools in the fields of agriculture, archeology, astronomy, atmospheric sciences, geography, geology, hydrology, planetary sciences, renewable natural resources, soil science and urban planning. The curriculum can be supplemented by numerous research projects in both applied and basic aspects of remote sensing. To meet the diverse needs of students, two options are offered: (a) remote sensing sciences is intended to meet the demands of students from engineering and the sciences (e.g., Electrical and Computer Engineering; Atmospheric Sciences; Geology, Optical Science; Soil and Natural resource sciences), and (b spatial analysis which is intended to meet the needs of students from disciplines that use remote sensing and geographic information systems as important tools in agriculture, archaeology, natural resource management, geographic applications or planning. Students have the option to choose both remote sensing and spatial analysis courses per their interests.
