Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the processes associated with teaching and learning in multiple art and visual culture education settings including but not limited to schools, museums, and community-based programs. The course is organized around the following themes: (1) observing in the classrooms and reflecting upon observations; (2) theories of learning and classroom management; (3) pedagogical theories and teaching approaches specific to art and visual culture education; (4) planning and preparing for teaching and learning for multiple learners; and (5) working in art and visual culture education settings. Of especial emphasis in the course are: understanding culture and language differences and working with multiple learners, contemporary teaching and learning theory in art and visual culture education, and instructional design. Directed field experience is required.
