Course Description
The Scholarly Project (SP) course aims to teach critical inquiry, research methods, teamwork, information literacy, communication, lifelong learning and research ethics. This course series is one in a series of four that occur over years 1-4 of the medical curriculum. The first course in the series includes didactic sessions in statistics, hypothesis testing, scientific methods, etc. Students develop their interest areas with SP advisors who assist in pairing each student with a research mentor. The remainder of the course set is mentor-driven where the student and mentor work collaboratively on the chosen research topic. During the fourth year course, the project culminates in a thesis and participation in a student research symposium prior to graduation.
