Course Description

This course is an introduction to basic medical terminology and clinical skills to allow students to understand the concepts of the patient interview and physical exam. Students will develop clinical skills, including how to communicate with patients, families, and other members of the care team; examine standardized patients; begin to develop their clinical reasoning skills; and understand the role of a student-physician in a patient's care. The experiences focus on providing students' opportunities to shadow existing faculty and residents to assist in developing clinical skills. Emphasis will be placed on taking a patient-centered approach to care.
