Course Description

In this four-week 4 credit elective, the Arizona Telemedicine Program (ATP) and the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) will use both individual and group interactive on-line formats to explore resources available to medical personnel and educators in the age of COVID, including: interactive virtual patients, on-line medical games, artificial intelligence in virtual patients, the issues of cybersecurity in virtual health, and virtual cadavers. Students will be taught how to critically analyze these resources in the context of healthcare learning objectives and be guided in applying on-line modules within a lesson plan. Students will also receive specific instruction in how to use telemedicine equipment to interview and examine patients. Students will be prepared to not only be sophisticated consumers of virtual patients, but also have a unique skill set to help design virtual patients, coordinate remote learning, and be part of a new generation of remote learners, teachers, critics, and leaders in 21stcentury remote healthcare.
