COGS505 - Neuroimaging Theory, Methods and Applications
Course Description
This course will introduce students to several modern neuroimaging techniques from theoretical and practical perspectives. We will begin with review of MRI physics and concepts that are necessary to understand design of fMRI experiments, perform analysis, and to interpret results in the literature. We will discuss functional and structural neuroimaging approaches, the first portion of the class will focus on MRI and fMRI. The clinical applications will be discussed. We will conclude with overview of electrophysiology (EEG/ERPs) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). Students will have an opportunity to acquire practical skills with some of the most commonly used neuroimaging data analysis and visualization softwares (e.g., SPM12, MRIcron, xjview, EEGlab), students do not need to have a prior experience with neuroimaging.
Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and brain function is recommended, the final project will be a research proposal applying one of the neuroimaging techniques of interest and in-class presentation.
