NRSC694 - Practicum: Teaching Course-Based Research Experiences (CUREs)
Course ID
042262
Course Description
This course will offer both pedagogical and practical training to future educators in the design and teaching of effective course-based research experiences (CUREs) in the biological sciences. CUREs are discovery-based laboratory courses that facilitate undergraduate participation in research. Enrolled students in NRSC 694 will learn how to design a CURE course to meet both research and educational outcomes. A major portion of the class is practical, supervised teaching/mentoring of undergraduates as they complete research projects in the CURE laboratory setting. Instructor feedback will be given as formative evaluations to facilitate teaching improvements throughout the semester. Students will also craft their own educational survey, based on best practices of the education field, and will analyze the resulting data.
