Course Description
In this course, students will establish a theoretical foundation for music therapy in behavioral health services. Students will become familiar with a wide range of diagnoses within the DSM-V and learn how music therapy can be a supportive treatment modality. Students will become familiar with other types of treatment and explore several types of behavioral health settings in which music therapy is used. Students will learn about trauma-informed care and gain insight into the many personal, familial, and societal factors which contribute to mental health diagnoses and addiction disorders.
