EDP660 - Mixed Methods Research
Course Description
This course aims to dispel the myth that mixed methods is simply mixing quantitative and qualitative methods in some random ways. Mixed methods have to do with mapping out the appropriate strategies for the study of given research questions and then justifying for the selection of any given strategies. Thus, the purposes of this course are (1) to provide an overview of mixed methods research including its history, assumptions, and philosophy, (2) to develop students ability to critically evaluate mixed methods research, and (3) to advance students theoretical and practical knowledge to design mixed methods research in their area of interest. Topics will include the benefits of using mixed methods, types of mixed methods design, mixing rationale, logistics of data collection and analysis, rigor in mixed methods research, and writing a mixed methods research proposal.
