MUS303 - Hip Hop Music Production
Course Description
Hip Hop Music Production invites students to better understand the ways that hip hop music is produced and made. To do this, students will explore the approaches of diverse musical artists and the technologies that constrained and inspired them. Projects will require students to not only listen and analyze recordings, but also to create and produce lyrics and music. Topics such as musical distribution, copyright, and musical promotion will be explored. In addition to better understanding how Hip Hop Music is created, students will gain an understanding about hip hop music's development in the United States, how styles and genres influence one another, how hip hop music influences social interaction and worldview, and how markets influence hip hop as hip hop shapes the business of music. Through active listening, observation, personal reflection, critical analysis, and the creation of hip hop music, students will thoroughly live into an artist's perspective.
