PHPR801 - Perspectives in Aging: Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE)

Pharmacy Practice & Science Pharmacy UA - UA General

Course Description

The majority of pharmacists will care for aging populations regardless of their practice setting. This course will offer broad perspectives of aging. Interprofessional perspectives will be portrayed by members of practicing geriatric teams, gerontology experts in the care of the older patients and populations, and older adults themselves. Subjects covered will include epidemiology, disease processes, social services, rehabilitation, medication use, nutrition, communication, and patient perspectives. Students will work in Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) settings to gain \"hands on\" experience in aging, communication, and relationship-building. Class attendance, engagement with speakers and exercise, and the IPPE rotation components are the most important expectations of this course.
