ART102 - First Year Experience: Pigments and Pixels
Course Description
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of traditional painting techniques, color theory principles, the fundamentals of design, and digital painting. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, hands-on exercises, and practical applications, students will develop a deep understanding of the interplay between painting, color, and design. Form (the technical component of your artwork) and content (the conceptual/idea component of your artwork) receive equal emphasis, as they are the inseparable tools, which allow artworks to communicate. Projects command the formal elements (composition, value, color, line, positive and negative space, etc.) for their ability to contain and convey meaning. By the end of the course, students will have developed a diverse portfolio of paintings that demonstrate proficiency in traditional painting techniques, a nuanced understanding of color theory, and a solid sense of design principles.
