LIS528 - Applied AI Literacies in Information Practice
Course Description
This course guides students in an advanced examination of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their integration into complex social, cultural, and technical contexts including information work. Students will explore AI methodologies leveraged by information professionals, including focus on AI in scholarly research and publication, exploring automated content analysis and its impact on the research to practice cycle, advanced prompt engineering, and teaching with AI. Students will also learn critical competencies for ethical AI system usage, including measures of inclusivity and strategies for ensuring that AI systems are calibrated to support accuracy and equity. Through seminar-style discussion, applications of case data, and an end-of-semester service learning project, students will learn how AI technologies are situated and employed in various professional settings within the field of information.
