Course Description

This course serves as the foundational entry point into the Bachelor of Science in Medical Device Development and Application. It is designed for first-year students to explore the dynamic, interdisciplinary world of medical technology. We will move beyond a simple overview of the industry to answer the fundamental question: \"Why does this field exist, and what does it take to succeed in it?\" Using the \"Film Director\" analogy, students will learn to see the entire MedTech ecosystem not as a series of isolated departments, but as a unified whole. Through engaging case studies of revolutionary devices, didactic lectures, and conversations with high-level leaders from medicine, business, and law, students will be introduced to the four core pillars of the MDDA major. This course will ignite students' curiosity and provide them with the conceptual framework needed to understand the complex, exciting, and impactful career of a \"Strategic Integrator\" in healthcare innovation.
